I have been twittering for a short while and just beginning to understand it better.

It is time consuming though.

Hi Kelly,

I'm on Twitter and sorta getting the hang of it. A couple different analogies have helped me understand it better. One is like a rolling stream, where you jump in wherever you are and interact with current tweets (rather than going through pages of tweets since your last log-on). The other analogy is like going to a party, where you ask questions, tell people interesting things about you, or share interesting info about the world.

I've gotten the best responses from people when I've shared a interesting link, retweeted someone else's tweet, or asked someone a question. It's definitely about sharing rather than plugging your own stuff.

I agree with JD, in that the longer I've been on it, the better I've gotten to know some people.

If you find people you really like, look at their follower list, and then follow some of their followers. Another tip is to read others' profile pages and you'll soon see patterns of the people who respond more often and who offer the most to others.

You can search for topics, people, places, etc. on: http://search.twitter.com
I've used it to look for specific names as well as topics that interest me (and find others who are talking about those topics).

Good luck! Happy Tweeting!

Hi Kelly,

I use Twitter and love it.

At first, I just didn't get it. I really didn't care what some of the people I was following were tweeting about.

Then, I started using Twitterrific on my desktop (for Macs) and started getting to know people I was following a bit better.

I also started talking to my friends now and then on Twitter.

Over time, I've come to really appreciate it.

I follow lots of people and unfollow the ones I don't have much in common with after a few weeks.

Twitter is a difficult place to actually have a conversation, but I've gotten involved in conversations on blogs, forums, and email with people I met or got to know better on Twitter.

How about you? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve for using Twitter better?

Act on your dream!

Congratulations on publishing your 100th lens. You are a inspiration to me as I just complete my 10th lens on entrepreneurship.

I have enjoyed your lens on Triibes. I hope to be able to get an invitation to join. I want to form a tribe of people with an entrepreneurial mindset. I am reading Seth's book, Tribes, which led me to your work on Squidoo.

Again, thanks for blazing the trail.
